Pregnant Malleswari to miss Goodwill Games
NEW DELHI (AFP): Olympic bronze medalist Karnam Malleswari will miss a chance to become the first Indian to take part in the Goodwill Games because of the impending birth of a child, it was revealed on Friday.
The weightlifter earned an invitation to the games, to be held in Brisbane from Aug. 29 to Sept. 9, after winning India's lone medal at the Sydney Olympics last year.
But with the child due on July 20, Malleswari will miss not only the Goodwill Games but also the inaugural Afro-Asian Games in New Delhi in November.
"I hope to be back in action before the Asian Games in Pusan next year," Malleswari, 26, said.
