Precious Metals and Jewellery Drive Indonesia's Imports to US$20.89 Billion in February 2026

Jakarta, VIVA – The Central Statistics Agency (BPS), through Deputy for Distribution and Services Statistics, Ateng Hartono, reported that Indonesia’s total import value in February 2026 reached US$20.89 billion, an increase of 10.85% compared to February 2025.

He detailed that the oil and gas import value was recorded at US$2 billion, down 30.36% year-on-year, while non-oil and gas imports reached US$18.90 billion, up 18.24% year-on-year.

“The year-on-year increase in import value was mainly driven by the rise in non-oil and gas imports, contributing 15.47%,” said Ateng during a teleconference press briefing on Wednesday, 1 April 2026.

Meanwhile, Indonesia’s imports for January-February 2026 totalled US$42.09 billion, up 14.44% from the same period the previous year.

Ateng explained that the oil and gas import value for January-February 2026 was US$5.16 billion, down 3.50%, while non-oil and gas imports were US$36.93 billion, up 17.49%.

“When viewed by usage, the cumulative increase in import value occurred across all usage categories,” he stated.

Ateng added that the main contributor to the import increase was auxiliary raw materials imports, reaching US$29.40 billion, up 9.27% from the same period last year.

“And contributing 6.78% to the import increase in January-February 2026,” said Ateng.

Meanwhile, auxiliary raw material import commodities that rose significantly included precious metals and jewellery or gems, machines and electrical equipment and parts, as well as chemical products.

“When viewed by country and region of import origin, the main import value increases came from China, Australia, Singapore, and the European Union region. Meanwhile, imports from ASEAN were recorded to have declined,” he said.
