Pre-Owned Luxury Goods Transactions Shift to Outright Sale Scheme
Luxury fashion items are increasingly being treated as assets that can be liquidated when owners need funds. Amid fluctuating economic conditions, the outright sale scheme is becoming more popular than consignment because it offers faster disbursement of funds. This change is evident from the growing interest of owners of branded bags, watches, and jewellery in selling their collections directly. Unlike the consignment system, which requires owners to wait for the item to be sold, outright sale transactions allow funds to be received after the appraisal process is complete. Product Specialist at ALLU, Taku Matsumoto, stated that the need for liquidity is one of the factors driving the change in transaction patterns in the pre-owned luxury goods market. “Economic fluctuations are driving the emergence of direct outright sale transaction services as an alternative for fund disbursement that differs from the consignment system,” he said in Jakarta on Saturday (18/7/2026). According to him, the consignment process often takes up to several months. This situation causes some asset owners to choose direct transactions when they need funds in a short time. ALLU, which is under Valuence Holdings Inc. and partners with PT Mastro Luxe Indonesia, implements an outright sale scheme with an appraisal process conducted by certified appraisers from Japan. The valuation is based on global market prices, so the transaction value follows current market conditions. The company states that the process from authenticity inspection to fund disbursement can be completed in approximately 30-60 minutes. Accepted items include European-brand bags, watches, and jewellery, including collections that no longer have boxes, proof of purchase, or show signs of wear. Currently, the service is available at 17 outlets spread across Jakarta, Surabaya, Bandung, Semarang, Bali, Makassar, and Medan. In addition to physical stores, the company also provides a home visit service for the item inspection process. On the other hand, the increase in pre-owned fashion item transactions also extends the product usage cycle, thereby reducing the need for new goods production. “A longer usage cycle for fashion products reduces the volume of global garment industry waste. This also provides insight to the public that caring for and transferring fashion collections directly contributes to the implementation of a circular economy,” said Taku.
