Prayers on RI's birthday

JAKARTA: Two Buddhist organizations have appealed to their
followers to pray for the nation's glory when they celebrate
Waisak Day, Buddha's Day of Enlightenment, next month.

Sangha Agung Indonesia (Sagin) and Majelis Buddhayana
Indonesia (MBI) called on members to participate in all
activities organized for the celebration of the 50th Independence
Day on Aug. 17.

The joint appeal was signed by Sagin secretary general Bhikkhu
Aryamaitri Maha-Lekhanadikari and MBI deputy chief Parwati
Soepangat.

Many Indonesian Buddhists observe Waisak Day at the temples of
Mendut and Borobudur in Central Java. (pan)
