Finance Minister Purbaya Yudhi Sadewa has revealed that he has a special prayer for Indonesia to offer in the Holy Land during his planned Hajj pilgrimage at the end of May 2026.

When asked what prayer he would make before the Ka’bah during Hajj, Purbaya stated that one of them would be for the national economy to grow even faster, with changes felt directly by Indonesian society within the next three years.

“The prayer is for our economy to keep doing well, with growth becoming stronger, so in three years we’ll all be rich together,” said Purbaya in the Kebon Sirih area, Central Jakarta, on Wednesday, 6 May 2026.

When asked when exactly he would depart for the Hajj pilgrimage, Purbaya said his departure was estimated for 21 May 2026. “(Departure) on the 21st if it goes ahead, insyaAllah,” he stated.

Regarding the national economic growth achievement for Q1-2026 at 5.61 per cent, he believes it is a sign that Indonesia has successfully escaped the curse or trap of the 5 per cent economic growth trend.

“We’ve escaped the 5 per cent growth curse. It’s been two quarters now, 5.39 per cent (in Q4-2025) and 5.61 per cent (in Q1-2026). So we hope for even faster growth ahead, faster, faster. We’ll maintain the existing growth momentum,” said Purbaya.

Therefore, Purbaya stressed that amid the increasingly uncertain global economic conditions, this national economic growth achievement is a significant accomplishment for Indonesia.

He even described it as a miracle, as it occurred without the government having to spend additional money and budget, yet economic growth could surge quite high.

“If I say so, this is a miracle. With the same budget, without additional money, we can create faster growth,” said Purbaya.

“By just transferring money from BI to banking, alongside other programmes of course. That means I can boost economic growth without capital,” he added.
