Pratikno Says There is Potential Difference in Eid al-Fitr Date Between Government and Muhammadiyah
Menteri Koordinator (Menko) Bidang Pembangunan Manusia dan Kebudayaan (PMK), Pratikno, has revealed there is potential for a difference in the date of Eid al-Fitr 1447 H between the government and Muhammadiyah.
Muhammadiyah has already set 20 March 2026 as Eid al-Fitr (Lebaran). However, the government has not yet determined the date, as it will only hold its determination hearing (sidang isbat) on 19 March 2026.
“There is indeed potential for a difference in the Eid al-Fitr date, we will wait and see the result, but that should not affect the holiday schedule and so on,” Pratikno said at a press conference at the Coordinating Ministry of Presidential Staff office in Jakarta on Wednesday, 11 March 2026.
“The determination hearing (by the government) will be held on 19 March,” he added.
Nonetheless, Pratikno believes there is no problem if the government and Muhammadiyah set different dates for Eid al-Fitr.
However, Pratikno still hopes the government and Muhammadiyah will celebrate Eid on the same day.
“Whether the date of 1 Syawal will be different or not, let us hope it is the same, but even if it differs, there is no problem,” Pratikno said.
According to Pratikno, what is most important is that Muslims respect each other’s choice.
“So we need not necessarily have the same date, we can differ. But what is important is that we respect and appreciate each other if there is indeed a difference in the result of the determination hearing on 1 Syawal,” he added.
