State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi has claimed that President Prabowo Subianto enjoys a good relationship with United States President Donald Trump. Prasetyo expressed this confidence ahead of the two leaders' meeting in the United States this week.

Prabowo is currently in the United States, where the head of state will attend the inaugural Summit of the Board of Peace, an initiative spearheaded by Trump. In addition, Prabowo and Trump are set to sign a trade tariff agreement between Indonesia and the United States.

Prasetyo expressed hope that the good relations between the two heads of state would facilitate the agenda in the United States, particularly regarding the tariff agreement. The import tariff rate for Indonesian goods entering the United States that is expected to be signed stands at approximately 19 per cent, Prasetyo said.

However, according to Prasetyo, the rapport between Prabowo and Trump could result in a lower tariff rate being agreed upon by the US for Indonesia. "Perhaps through the communication process, it is not impossible that, given the good relationship between the two leaders, there may be a change in policy — we do not know," Prasetyo said at the House of Representatives building in Jakarta on Wednesday, 18 February 2026.

Prasetyo expressed hope that Prabowo's meeting with Trump would bring benefits to the Indonesian nation. "We all hope that perhaps during the meeting between President Prabowo and President Trump, there may be changes that would benefit our nation and country," he said.

Prabowo and Trump are scheduled to sign the trade import tariff agreement on Thursday, 19 February 2026. On the same day, the Board of Peace will also hold its first summit in Washington D.C.

Prabowo and the presidential entourage landed at Andrews Military Base in Washington D.C. on Tuesday, 17 February 2026, at 11.55 local time, or 23.55 Western Indonesian Time.

When the Garuda Indonesia-1 aircraft carrying Prabowo touched down, the President was welcomed by a number of officials, including Indonesia's Ambassador to the United States Dwisuryo Indroyono Soesilo, Indonesian Defence Attaché in Washington Air Vice Marshal E. Wisoko Aribowo, and Maintenance Group Commander Colonel Gary Charland.

Following the welcome at the airfield, Prabowo proceeded directly to his hotel in Washington D.C. On this visit, Prabowo is accompanied by Cabinet Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya and Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources Bahlil Lahadalia.
