Prasetyo: Government Formulating Budget Efficiency Measures for Civil Service
Jakarta — State Secretary Minister Prasetyo Hadi stated that the government is examining the impact of budget efficiency policies on the civil service apparatus (ASN), including potential adjustments in the recruitment of new civil servants.
Responding to questions about the number of ASN affected, Prasetyo emphasised that the government has not yet been able to provide precise figures. However, the matter has been discussed in the context of maintaining the nation’s fiscal balance.
“This is being discussed as one of the options. So, as I mentioned earlier, regarding the question of numbers, we cannot yet provide exact figures today,” said the State Secretary after attending a Coordination Meeting on Presidential Strategic Programmes at the Ministry of Defence Building in Jakarta on Tuesday.
He explained that naturally, each year a number of civil servants reach retirement age, so the government is considering adjusting the number of new ASN recruits to match the number of retiring employees, as part of budget control strategy.
“Regarding fiscal matters, indeed naturally each year a number of civil servants reach the retirement age limit,” he said.
The government implemented budget efficiency measures in response to increased global uncertainty caused by ongoing conflicts in various regions. The geopolitical situation has triggered pressure on the global economy, ranging from energy and food price fluctuations to disruptions in international supply chains.
Several conflicts, such as the war between Russia and Ukraine and tensions in the Middle East region, have had significant impacts on global economic stability. This situation has also affected various macroeconomic indicators, including inflation, exchange rates, and strategic commodity prices.
