Pramono Warns of Israel-US Attacks on Iran, Anticipates Price Rises in Jakarta
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has highlighted potential impacts of the global conflict, particularly tensions between the United States, Israel, and Iran, on Jakarta’s economic conditions. He warned that war could result in rising commodity prices.
“We must certainly be cautious. We will continue communicating to maintain Jakarta well. Because regardless, war will certainly have impacts, both directly and indirectly,” Pramono said at Pondok Pesantren Al Hamid Putra, Cipayung, East Jakarta, Saturday (28/2/2026).
Pramono explained that one of the primary concerns was potential disruption to global transport routes, particularly the Strait of Hormuz, which serves as the main conduit for global energy distribution. According to him, if this route is disrupted, supply chains could be affected.
“Especially since one of the main concerns is warfare affecting global transport routes, including the Strait of Hormuz and so on. If anything happens, it will certainly cause price increases and also disrupt supply chains,” he said.
Pramono assured that the Jakarta provincial government would continue monitoring global developments and maintaining Jakarta’s stability, particularly ahead of Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr. He also urged all parties to maintain security in the capital amid global uncertainty.
“We are grateful that together we maintain our Jakarta, especially in welcoming Eid al-Fitr,” he added.
The military forces of the United States and Israel launched attacks on Iran, with five cities impacted by the strikes. Explosions were heard in the cities of Isfahan, Qom, Karaj, and Kermanshah, as well as in the capital Tehran.
US President Donald Trump announced the military strikes against Iran in a video statement. Trump described the US strikes as “massive and sustained” operations to destroy Iranian missiles and naval forces.
He stated that the strikes aimed to prevent Iran from threatening the lives of US citizens.
“The United States military is conducting major and sustained operations to prevent this extremely evil radical dictatorship from threatening America and our core national security interests,” Trump said in his announcement, according to CNN, Saturday (28/2).
