Pramono Wants Kuningan Area to Resemble Sudirman-Thamrin
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung wants the Kuningan area in South Jakarta to look comparable to the Sudirman-Thamrin corridor before Jakarta’s 499th anniversary on 22 June.
“Hopefully before 22 June this year, Jakarta — specifically Kuningan — will look more or less the same as Sudirman-Thamrin. There will be pedestrian walkways, proper drainage and better parks,” Pramono said at an event titled “One Year of Building Jakarta From the Ground Up” at Taman Bendera Pusaka on Friday (20/2).
Pramono noted that the Highways Agency (Dinas Bina Marga) is currently demolishing monorail pillars in the HR Rasuna Said road area. Once all the pillars along the road have been removed, he wants parks to be built in their place to improve the streetscape.
His hope, he said, is that HR Rasuna Said will ultimately be more attractive and free of congestion.
Pramono had previously called for the monorail pillar removal on HR Rasuna Said to be accelerated. “For the monorail pillars, I initially targeted completion in September. But after seeing the work on the ground, I asked for it to be sped up,” he said.
Pramono explained that whereas a single pillar previously took an entire day to dismantle, he now wants four to five pillars completed per day. He confirmed this pace has already been implemented on site, meaning the work will be finished much sooner.
“As for the cutting work, I happened to pass by yesterday, and what they are currently working on are the concrete-filled pillars. These naturally take longer. But the standalone steel pillars have almost all been cut down,” Pramono explained.
Pramono also stressed that the Rp100 billion budget is not solely for pillar demolition. The allocation also covers the construction of drainage channels, road improvements, pedestrian walkways and parks.
