Pramono wants Jakarta MRT ridership to reach millions

Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo wants the number of Jakarta MRT passengers to reach millions, learning from the transport system in Shenzhen, China. Quoting a video uploaded via his official Instagram account @pramonoanungw on Friday, Pramono said that the current number of MRT users in Shenzhen has reached 10 to 13 million passengers, with a total track length of 635 km. “That is something extraordinary. Compared to Jakarta, now 128 thousand passengers per day. Jakarta will only be able to complete 22 km next year,” said Pramono after meeting with the Shenzhen Metro Group in Guangdong, China. “We must learn a lot from Shenzhen Metro. Therefore, MRT is the key to reducing congestion in Jakarta,” Pramono stated. Meanwhile, based on data from the Central Statistics Agency for July 2025, the highest number of public transport passengers in Jakarta in 2025 was Transjakarta with 37.6 million users, followed by MRT with 4.3 million passengers, and then LRT with 118 thousand passengers.
