Pramono Vows Zero Tolerance for Public Facility Vandalism in Jakarta

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stressed that he will not tolerate individuals who steal or damage public facilities. He stated that if a perpetrator is identified, particularly if they are a recipient of social assistance or other facilities provided by the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government, he will not compromise and will revoke their access to such benefits. Pramono emphasised that public facilities are built for the community’s interest and must be protected together, not destroyed or taken for personal gain. He noted that as a city with a population exceeding 11 million, Jakarta faces challenges in ensuring all public assets and facilities remain functional. He has instructed all regional apparatus organisations to promptly repair any damage, such as broken lifts. Responding to reports of a non-functioning lift at the Senayan bus stop, he said he would immediately ask the relevant agency to inspect it, while confirming that lifts in other locations previously reported as faulty are now operational. The Governor’s remarks were made in response to reports of damaged or non-functioning public facilities, including a pedestrian bridge on Jalan Kapten Tendean that was struck by a heavy equipment transporter, out-of-service Transjakarta lifts, and missing CCTV cameras suspected to have been stolen.
