Pramono Vows Zero Tolerance for Public Facility Vandalism in Jakarta
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has affirmed that he will show no tolerance towards those who steal or damage public facilities in Jakarta.
“If we can identify the person who took something, especially if they are, for instance, a recipient of social assistance or of facilities provided by the Jakarta Provincial Government, I will not compromise — we will no longer provide anything to the person concerned,” said Pramono at City Hall, Jakarta, on Wednesday.
He said that public facilities are built for the benefit of the community and must therefore be protected together, not damaged or taken for personal gain.
As a city with a population of more than 11 million, Pramono said, Jakarta faces challenges in keeping all of its assets and public facilities in good working order.
“This is part of the reality of a city with more than 11 million residents. Of course, not everything we have prepared is being maintained well,” said Pramono.
“Yet I have already asked all regional apparatus organisations (OPD) that whenever a lift is broken, it must be repaired immediately,” he added.
Regarding reports of a lift not functioning at the Senayan bus stop, he said he had promptly asked the relevant agency to carry out an inspection.
Meanwhile, he said lifts at several other locations that had previously experienced problems have returned to operation.
Pramono made the statement in response to reports of a number of public facilities being damaged or out of service, including a pedestrian bridge (JPO) on Jalan Kapten Tendean damaged after being struck by a heavy equipment transport truck, lifts at several Transjakarta stops reported to be non-operational, and the loss of CCTV cameras at several locations due to suspected theft.
“The one at Senayan I am not yet aware of — I will ask for it to be checked. But as for the others, it seems the lifts are now working, including the one that was previously a concern at Sarinah and in several other places,” said Pramono.
