Pramono: Velodrome-Dukuh Atas LRT to Boost Transport Integration
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo believes that once the LRT line from Velodrome to Dukuh Atas is constructed, more than 95 per cent of Jakarta’s transport network will be integrated. “When this is completed, the entire Jakarta transport system will be connected at over 95 per cent. So it will be much easier,” Pramono said in North Jakarta on Tuesday. Pramono stated that the LRT route from Velodrome to Manggarai will be completed and inaugurated this August. The route will span 12.5 kilometres and include 11 stations. Once this section is finished, the Jakarta administration will immediately proceed with extending the LRT to Dukuh Atas. Previously, transport analyst Deddy Herlambang assessed that extending the LRT route from Velodrome to Dukuh Atas would increase public transport ridership and reduce traffic congestion. He noted this would be particularly effective if the route passes shopping centres and educational institutions. “It will certainly be effective in shifting people to public transport if the LRT alignment passes through crowded places like malls or markets, offices, schools or campuses. If people use public transport, the volume of private vehicles will automatically decrease,” Deddy explained. However, he expressed regret over Governor Pramono Anung’s decision to prioritise the Velodrome-Manggarai-Dukuh Atas LRT development. He suggested it would be better if the Jakarta Provincial Government prioritised building LRT lines to residential areas, making it easier for residents to access public transport.
