Pramono urges underprivileged elderly to utilise Jakarta Elderly Card programme

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo is encouraging underprivileged elderly residents to take advantage of the Jakarta Elderly Card (KLJ) programme. He emphasised, however, that the programme is not available to financially secure senior citizens. “There are indeed prerequisites that must be met. Some elderly people who, pardon me, are well-off, whose families are well-off and supported by their families, of course, apologetically, cannot yet receive the Elderly Card. But those in need will be our priority,” Pramono explained in the North Jakarta area on Tuesday. To date, Pramono noted that approximately 168,497 elderly residents in DKI Jakarta have utilised the Elderly Card. Registration for the KLJ remains open. Residents who have not yet obtained the KLJ are expected to promptly arrange their registration to enjoy the facility. Through the elderly card, seniors in need can receive social assistance in the form of cash amounting to Rp300,000 per month. In addition to social assistance via the elderly card, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government also provides various other facilities for elderly residents, such as free public transport services and access to health services at government-owned hospitals and community health centres (puskesmas). “Now, riding any transport managed by the Jakarta Government is free. Please arrange (the card registration),” Pramono said. Furthermore, Jakarta has now established an Elderly School programme, which currently has 78 schools with 2,278 participants.
