The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, stated that Jakarta’s position as a global city demands a disaster management system capable of responding to situations quickly, precisely, and accurately.

Pramono made these remarks while opening the 2026 Jakarta Provincial Disaster Management Regional Coordination Meeting (Rakorda), themed “Determining Disaster Emergency Status: Challenge or Opportunity,” at the Aryaduna Hotel Menteng, Central Jakarta, on Tuesday (6/10).

“As a global city, disaster issues are undoubtedly a very sensitive issue for any city; therefore, precision and speed in anticipation are extremely important,” said Pramono.

He emphasised that disaster management cannot be undertaken by a single agency. Preparedness requires coordination between regional apparatuses, the central government, security forces, the business community, volunteers, communities, and the general public.

“In disaster management, the synergy of all elements is the primary key, namely between regional apparatuses, BNPB, BMKG, TNI, Polri, Forkopimda, the business world, volunteers, communities, and the public,” he said.

One of the risks currently under attention is fire in densely populated residential areas due to the prolonged dry season caused by El Niño. The Governor requested relevant departments to increase vigilance and preventive measures in high-risk areas.

“Currently, the potential for fire is very high, especially in densely populated areas, so I am strictly asking all ranks to anticipate and guard against this,” Pramono noted.

Regarding flood management, the Jakarta Provincial Government is said to be coordinating with the central government and neighbouring local governments, particularly in the management of rivers that cross regional boundaries.

The Jakarta Provincial Government is focusing on land acquisition for the management of 13 main rivers, while the construction of retaining walls (turap) is being carried out by the central government.

“Matters relating to inter-regional borders are actually the task of the central government, whereas the Jakarta Provincial Government focuses on land acquisition, as is being done in the Ciliwung, Krukut, and Cakung Lama rivers,” said Pramono.

According to him, disaster management does not end at the emergency response phase. The recovery of affected residents must be carried out comprehensively, involving regional apparatuses as needed.

“In Jakarta, the handling is done comprehensively and not partially through the Social Services, PPKUKM Services, Health Services, up to the Education Services, because post-event handling is paramount,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Jakarta Provincial Disaster Management Agency (BPBD), Marulitua Sijabat, stated that the Rakorda also discussed evacuation readiness, the adequacy of logistics and infrastructure, and meeting the needs of refugees in accordance with minimum service standards.

“Through this Rakorda, we hope it can serve as a momentum to strengthen Jakarta’s preparedness for disasters, evacuation mapping, adequacy of logistics and infrastructure, as well as handling refugee needs that meet minimum service standards,” said Marulitua.

The 2026 Jakarta Provincial Disaster Management Regional Coordination Meeting serves as a forum to strengthen preparedness, coordination, and cross-sectoral response to various disaster risks in Jakarta.

“The 2026 Regional Disaster Coordination Meeting is an important space to strengthen the commitment, capacity, and preparedness of all elements in facing various disaster risks in Jakarta,” Pramono concluded.
