Jakarta - The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung Wibowo, has advised members of the Municipal Police (Satpol PP) and the Community Protection Unit (Satlinmas) to exercise emotional restraint and implement the ‘4S’ principle—Smile, Greet, Salute, and Polite—while performing their duties.

Pramono made these remarks during his keynote address at the 76th anniversary celebration of the Satpol PP at Taman Ismail Marzuki, Jakarta, on Tuesday.

“Satpol PP members can also become emotional, angry, or offended by small matters. However, because you are currently assigned to the front line to maintain the face of Jakarta, you must be able to restrain yourselves. At the very least, learn from your Governor,” Pramund joked.

Despite frequently receiving negative comments, Pramono admitted that he continues to smile and strives to work effectively. He expressed his hope that Satpol PP members could adopt a similar mindset.

Furthermore, he noted that the increasingly humanistic approach implemented by the Satpol PP is a vital component in building public trust. He argued that firmness in executing duties must go hand-in-hand with communication, dialogue, empathy, and respect for citizens.

Pramono emphasised that as a global city, Jakarta requires professional and adaptive apparatus. He stated that Satpol PP and Satlinmas must continue to strengthen their integrity, discipline, communication skills, and the utilisation of technology in their operations.

“The face of Jakarta’s Satpol PP is much more humanistic now. This has been proven in the field, and public trust in the Satpol PP has experienced a significant increase,” said Pramono.

On this occasion, Pramono also invited all ranks to continue strengthening the ‘Jaga Jakarta’ (Guard Jakarta) spirit towards transforming Jakarta into a safe, orderly, comfortable, and humanistic global city.

“The ‘Jaga Jakarta’ spirit must be continuously strengthened as we approach our five-century milestone. The target is clear: a Jakarta that is safe, orderly, comfortable, and humanistic, while being capable of building trust among residents, business actors, and the international community,” he stated.

Meanwhile, the Head of the Jakarta Provincial Satpol PP, Satriadi Gunawan, stated that the maintenance of public order and community protection in Jakarta is generally running safely and concondingly thanks to the synergy of all ranks down to the sub-district level and the involvement of the community.

“We are continuously improving and transforming, one of which is through the 4S movement: Smile, Greet, Salute, and Polite, as a behavioural guideline for members when interacting with the public,” said Satriadi.
