Pramono Urges Satpol PP and Police to Take Firm Action Against Wrong-Way Drivers in Jakarta
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has asked the Jakarta City Civil Service Police Unit (Satpol PP) to coordinate with the police to firmly deal with drivers who frequently drive in the wrong way on the capital’s roads. ‘I have asked Satpol PP to take firm action and coordinate with the police authorities. So wherever someone drives against the traffic direction, firm action should be taken,’ Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Thursday, 5 March 2026. He acknowledged that the direct-ticketing (tilang) system is no longer applied as it was before. ‘Indeed, the procedure for imposing fines and so on is not like before,’ Pramono said. However, he stressed that such violations should not be allowed to continue. He said the actions have caused alarm and endangered other road users. Therefore, Satpol PP is asked to work with the police to make enforcement more effective. ‘Many violators can only receive warnings. But I have asked Satpol PP to coordinate with the police to take firm action because this is disruptive,’ Pramono said. Residents have complained about car and motorcycle riders who insist on driving the wrong way on Jalan DI Panjaitan to Otista in East Jakarta. The behaviour is considered dangerous and could trigger accidents. Vehicles often drive the wrong way in front of the Regional Office of the Ministry of Religious Affairs towards Otista III or perform a U-turn in front of the Jatinegara District Office. This situation frequently disrupts traffic flow. In South Jakarta, motorbike riders also continue to drive the wrong way on Jalan Lebak Bulus Raya, Cilandak, towards Pondok Indah.
