Pramono Urges Restraint After Matraman Clash, Entrusts Handling to Authorities
Strengthened patrols are part of efforts to maintain security.
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has expressed deep sorrow and concern over the Matraman clash. He has called on all members of the public to exercise restraint, avoid being provoked, and entrust the handling of the case to law enforcement officials.
He has instructed all his staff to coordinate with law enforcement officials, community figures, religious figures and youth figures in order to keep the situation conducive.
“We convey our very deep concern and grief over the incident that occurred in the Matraman area. I have instructed the ranks of the DKI Jakarta provincial government to coordinate with law enforcement officials, community figures, religious figures and youth figures so that the situation remains conducive and peaceful,” said Pramono at the DKI Jakarta City Hall on Monday (27/7).
His side fully supports the investigation and inquiry into the Matraman clash being carried out by the authorities in accordance with prevailing laws and regulations.
“The Jakarta government places its full hope in law enforcement officials to resolve this matter properly, through the process of investigation and inquiry in accordance with applicable provisions,” he said.
He urged the public to remain level-headed and not to take any action that could aggravate the situation.
“I call on all members of the public to remain level-headed, not to engage in provocations that could potentially widen the conflict, not to spread information or disinformation that is not based on facts, and not to damage public facilities,” he said.
In closing his remarks, Pramono once again invited all residents to protect Jakarta from the potential for conflict.
“Jakarta must be protected by all of us together. That is why the spirit of ‘Jaga Jakarta’ (Guard Jakarta) becomes ever more important in a situation like this,” he concluded. (H-3)
The Chairman of the Betawi Bamus (Betawi Consultative Body), Eki Pitung, urged residents and migrants not to be easily provoked emotionally in order to prevent horizontal conflict following the clash on Jalan Tambak and Matraman.

SJ died after becoming a victim of a brawl on Jalan Kapuk Raya, Cengkareng, West Jakarta, on Saturday (19/4) at 02.30 WIB. SJ died from multiple slash wounds.
The Regional Secretary of DKI Jakarta, Marullah Matali, said one of the triggers of brawls between residents in Jakarta could be that they are unemployed or have no regular activities.
