Pramono Urges Restraint After Matraman Clash, Entrusts Handling to Authorities

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has expressed his deepest condolences and concern over the Matraman clash. He has urged all members of the public to exercise restraint, avoid provocation, and entrust the handling of the case to law enforcement officials. He has instructed all ranks to coordinate with law enforcement, community leaders, and youth leaders to maintain a conducive situation. “We express our deepest concern and condolences over the incident in the Matraman area. I have instructed the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government ranks to coordinate with law enforcement, community leaders, religious leaders, and youth leaders to ensure the situation remains conducive and peaceful,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Monday (27/7). He stated that the government fully supports the investigation and legal process carried out by the authorities in accordance with statutory regulations. “The Jakarta Government places its full hope in law enforcement officials to resolve this matter properly, through investigation and legal proceedings in accordance with applicable regulations,” he said. He appealed to the public to remain level-headed and not to take actions that could aggravate the situation. “I urge all members of the public to remain level-headed, not to engage in provocations that could potentially widen the conflict, not to spread information or disinformation not based on facts, and not to damage public facilities,” he stated. Concluding his statement, Pramono once again called on all residents to protect Jakarta from potential conflict. “We must protect Jakarta together. Therefore, the spirit of ‘Jaga Jakarta’ becomes increasingly important in a situation like this,” he concluded.
