Pramono Urges Jakartans: Never Lose Optimism for the City
The Governor of Jakarta delivered a mandate during the ceremony for the 499th anniversary of Jakarta at Monas, Central Jakarta. In his address, Pramono urged Jakarta residents never to lose optimism towards the city.
The ceremony for Jakarta’s 499th anniversary was held at Monas on Monday (22/06/2026). Pramono stated that the Jakarta Provincial Government remains committed to working responsively and adaptively to ensure the public can carry out their activities.
“At the same time, we are ensuring this city continues to move towards its future. To welcome Jakarta’s new chapter, several strategic agendas are being implemented to prepare for a leap in civilisation that is more connected, smart, and equitable,” he explained.
“This includes preparations for the operation of LRT Phase 1B Velodrome-Manggarai, the construction of MRT Phase 2A, and the development of the pedestrian deck in the integrated Dukuh Atas TOD area,” he added.
Furthermore, Pramono noted that urban regeneration is being carried out in various locations such as Kota Tua, Blok M, Pasar Baru, Glodok, and Pecinan. This initiative aims to revitalise economic and tourism activities and provide spaces for social interaction among residents.
Pramono then expressed that Jakarta’s anniversary is not merely an annual celebration but a cross-generational effort to realise Jakarta as a global and cultured city.
“Ladies and gentlemen, as we approach Jakarta’s fifth century, we must interpret today’s momentum not just as an annual celebration, but as a cross-generational endeavour to establish Jakarta as a global and cultured city,” he stated.
Pramono then sent a message to Jakarta residents to never lose optimism towards the city, noting that Jakarta’s history teaches the importance of rising again without leaving its citizens behind.
“To all Jakarta residents, I urge you: never lose optimism towards this city. For history has taught us that Jakarta always rises without leaving its people behind,” he said.
Pramono also expressed his gratitude to the residents for being an essential part of every development and transformation.
“Thank you for being an important part of every development and transformation of this city. Let us make the 499th anniversary of Jakarta a momentum to strengthen collaboration, maintain unity, and foster optimism towards the 500th anniversary of a world-class Jakarta,” he concluded.
