JAKARTA — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has urged residents planning to return to their home towns for Eid to report their departure to local RT (neighbourhood association) and RW (community association) officials in order to anticipate potential fires or other incidents at homes left vacant by their owners.

The appeal was made by Pramono during a Ramadan outreach visit with officials from the Jakarta Provincial Government to the Thousand Islands on Friday, 13 March 2026.

“I have already instructed Jakarta’s provincial government officials, down to the RW and RT level, to conduct outreach to all residents who will be returning home to report their departure. This ensures there is someone responsible if they leave to visit their home towns,” said Pramono.

According to Pramono, such reporting is important to enable the surrounding neighbourhood to monitor the condition of homes left unoccupied during the residents’ absence.

Pramono referred to several past incidents where vacant homes had caught fire or been damaged by floods due to the absence of residents to monitor the property.

“We should not experience what happened before, where there were fires, or also flooding,” he said.

In addition, Pramono also cautioned of potential rises in sea level that require precautions, particularly for residents living in coastal areas.

“There is still a possibility of heavy rainfall during Eid, with moderate probability. However, there is also data indicating that sea level could rise,” said Pramono.

“For this reason, we are asking all residents who will be returning home to report to their local RT and RW officials,” he added.
