Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has requested that hotels, restaurants, and cafes in the capital participate in an independent waste sorting movement. Pramono urged that the initiative runs effectively and sustainably to tackle Jakarta’s waste issues. “For hotels, restaurants, and cafes, we require all of them to have facilities for waste separation, as organic waste is indeed produced by hotels, restaurants, and cafes,” Pramono stated at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (12/5/2026). Meanwhile, for markets—whether under the Pasar Jaya management or not—waste sorting, especially organic waste, has begun. Even, according to Pramono, the organic waste from these markets is processed to be utilised as fertiliser. Besides markets, hotels, restaurants, and cafes, he has also instructed the entire Jakarta Provincial Government apparatus to implement the waste sorting movement. “This is not just a ceremonial campaign. We are serious, because this is to handle the waste problem in Jakarta, as Bantargebang can no longer cope,” Pramono asserted. He also directed the Regional Head Bureau (KDH) of Jakarta to evaluate the waste sorting movement every two weeks. “In this way, the entire apparatus will certainly move on it. In fact, I have asked the KDH Bureau every two weeks, we will evaluate the progress of this waste sorting movement,” Pramono said.
