Pramono urges homecoming travellers not to return to Jakarta simultaneously after Eid

Jakarta — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has urged residents not to return to the capital simultaneously after the Eid holiday to prevent traffic congestion.

“We appeal to residents returning to Jakarta, as this is a long holiday period, not to all cluster their departures at the beginning,” Pramono said when met in Central Jakarta on Tuesday.

The Jakarta Provincial Government is implementing free outbound and return travel programmes. The Head of Jakarta’s Transportation Agency, Syafrin Liputo, stated that the return journey programme begins on Wednesday, 25 March 2026, with departures from five cities to Pulo Gadung terminal.

“Subsequently, on Thursday, 26 March 2026, return homecoming participants will travel to Pulo Gebang terminal from 20 cities across Indonesia,” Syafrin explained.

He detailed that the 20 destination cities are spread across six provinces: South Sumatra, Lampung, West Java, Central Java, Yogyakarta Special Region (DIY), and East Java.

Syafrin also noted that 400 buses are allocated for the outbound homecoming journey with a passenger capacity of 18,813 passengers, whilst 344 buses are allocated for the return journey with a capacity of 16,199 passengers. In total, the outbound and return free travel programmes will transport 35,012 passengers this year.

Additionally, there are six special buses for persons with disabilities provided by the Baznas Bazis DKI Jakarta.

“We thank the state-owned enterprises and private companies that have provided bus assistance as corporate social responsibility, including the Chief Executive Officer of PT Bank Jakarta, PT Transportasi Jakarta, PT MRT Jakarta, PT LRT Jakarta, PAM Jaya, PT Pembangunan Jaya Ancol, and PT Farkos Citra Internasional,” Syafrin said.
