Pramono unveils priority development projects ahead of Jakarta's 500th anniversary

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has unveiled a series of priority development projects for the capital as it approaches its 500th anniversary in 2027. The construction aims to make Jakarta a comfortable city ahead of its five-century milestone. ‘To make Jakarta comfortable, this August we will inaugurate the LRT from Velodrome to Manggarai, and we will soon continue from Manggarai to Dukuh Atas,’ Pramono stated at the HI Roundabout on Saturday (27/6). He added that Taman Semanggi will soon have a new look, with two of the garden’s four sides targeted for completion by the end of this year and the remaining two sides finished by Jakarta’s anniversary in 2027. Another priority programme involves connecting several hotels around the HI Roundabout underground, with access to the MRT station. ‘Actually, I planned for it to be completed by early next year, but it looks like it will be a gift for Jakarta’s 500th anniversary,’ Pramono said. Among the various developments, Pramono also outlined other projects deemed beneficial for the public, including the construction of a waste-to-energy power plant to help tackle Jakarta’s waste problem and river normalisation to address flooding. To realise all these developments, Pramono acknowledged that he and Deputy Governor Rano Karno are dividing responsibilities to work together. ‘Thus, hopefully, Jakarta’s face will become more attractive, more comfortable, safer, and people will also come to visit,’ Pramono concluded.
