Pramono Unveils Major Infrastructure Projects to Transform Jakarta's Cityscape

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has spoken about the target of creating a new face for Jakarta. He explained that a number of projects in the capital are being accelerated to be completed and operational next year. Pramono conveyed this while opening the Jakarta Asset Forum and Expo (JAFEX) 2026 at the St Regis, South Jakarta, on Tuesday (11/8/2026). He initially outlined two transportation projects slated to be operational by 2027. “What I envision for Jakarta, Mr Coordinating Minister? If by 2027 the MRT is completed up to Monas, I am confident that areas like Pasar Baru, Harmoni, and later Kota Tua can be developed into the new face of Jakarta,” Pramono said. Pramono also revealed plans for transportation to the Thousand Islands, which will be managed by Transjakarta. He stated that various policies are being finalised to facilitate access for residents to enjoy the city. “Starting next year, as we have previously conveyed, we will think about transportation to the Thousand Islands, which has not been handled properly. If the Thousand Islands route is managed by the Transportation Agency, it will not be managed professionally. Therefore, we have decided that Transjakarta will manage the route to the Thousand Islands,” Pramono explained. On the occasion, Pramono also explained that development in Jakarta is no longer dependent on the regional budget (APBD). He said the management of Jakarta’s assets is directed to support development through creative financing schemes. “And that is what we are using to build Jakarta now. For example, the Taman Bendera Pusaka in Barito, 100 percent of it came from KLB, the Floor Area Ratio,” Pramono explained. Pramono also detailed the pedestrian deck project at the Dukuh Atas roundabout, which is currently under construction. He said that once the project is completed, residents will enjoy easy access to city transportation. “Hopefully, it will be finished in two years, becoming a hub that connects six modes of transportation. Currently, crossing there means getting caught in the rain and so on. Later, there will be the LRT, two LRTs actually, the Jakarta LRT and the Jabodebek LRT, the MRT, Transjakarta, Transjabodetabek, and the airport train and KRL. This is what will truly change the face of Jakarta,” Pramono stated.
