Pramono to Send 100 Jakarta Residents to Study Abroad Next Year
The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung, is preparing a foreign scholarship program for Jakarta students, similar to the Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP) scheme. He targets at least 100 Jakarta residents to be sent to study abroad starting next year.
“One thing that I really want to launch is to have a Jakarta LPDP. Is it possible? I believe it is. I believe it is,” said Pramono at the Jakarta Education Office, Thursday (February 26).
According to him, the presence of a scholarship program equivalent to the Jakarta Provincial Government’s version of LPDP is a strategic step to open access to global education for the capital’s children, especially from less affluent families.
He emphasized that education is the most concrete instrument to change fate and improve the economic conditions of families.
However, he admitted that the plan was temporarily postponed. The 2026 APBD (Regional Budget) experienced pressure due to cuts in revenue sharing funds (DBH) which amounted to around IDR 15 trillion. This condition makes the scholarship program not yet feasible this year.
“We were indeed affected by a significant reduction in DBH. But that intention has not diminished,” he said.
He said he had held a direct meeting with the Director of LPDP Scholarships, Dwi Larso. The meeting discussed the technical details so that the Jakarta scholarship scheme could be prepared carefully and sustainably.
“Three days ago, I was accompanied by Ms. Nahdiana (Head of the Education Office) and we received Mr. Dwi Larso. We have started to talk in more detail,” he said.
Pramono also gave a clear target to the ranks of the Jakarta Education Office.
“I have told Ms. Nana, ‘if possible, next year we can send at least 100 people on LPDP’,” he said.
Furthermore, he also asked that the Kartu Jakarta Mahasiswa Unggul (KJMU) program be expanded in scope.
So far, KJMU has mainly targeted the undergraduate level (S1). In the future, he wants beneficiaries to be given the opportunity to continue their studies to S2 and even S3.
For Pramono, investment in education is Jakarta’s long-term foundation. He cited his personal journey, which was inseparable from access to education.
“That is why I said earlier, education is what changes a person’s fate. I am not sure I could be here as governor without education,” he said. (Z-10)
