Pramono to promptly prepare facilities to support household waste sorting initiative
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo stated that facilities and infrastructure will soon be prepared to support the waste sorting movement in residents’ homes. “Gradually, of course, we will also prepare the facilities and infrastructure,” Pramono said in the Jakarta East area on Monday. He made this statement in response to comments from the Special Committee (Pansus) on Waste Management of the Jakarta DPRD, which highlighted the minimal facilities and infrastructure provided to support the programme. According to Pramono, the movement has only just begun, so it still requires time to provide the facilities and infrastructure. Nevertheless, he said he has asked city mayors, sub-district heads, village heads, and neighbourhood and community units to intensify the waste sorting movement. “But the most important thing is that this must be sustainable and not allowed to stop, because this is what will change the face of Jakarta in terms of waste,” Pramono stated. “If we have already sorted at home and it comes out of the house, where will this waste be placed? We cannot just urge without preparing the facilities and infrastructure,” said Judistira. According to him, the call to the public to sort waste has not yet been accompanied by readiness of facilities in the field. He also touched on the level of public understanding and discipline in supporting waste management, which is still not optimal. Therefore, education is deemed necessary to run alongside the provision of adequate facilities.
