Pramono to Meet with Jumhur to Discuss Bantargebang Issues
For the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Processing Site, it is not prohibited; we will prepare and I will soon sit down with the new Minister of Environment, Mr Jumhur, to jointly formulate what the central government’s directives are,” said Pramono in the Daan Mogot area, West Jakarta, on Saturday (2/5/2026). Pramono emphasised that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will follow the policies set by the central government regarding future waste management. He is optimistic that the issue can soon find a solution. “I am confident it will definitely be handled promptly,” he stated. This waste management issue arose following plans to restrict waste disposal to the Bantargebang TPST starting 1 August. The policy is pushing the DKI Provincial Government to prepare alternative steps so that waste handling remains optimal. It is known that the main problem at the Bantargebang TPST is the collapse of the rubbish mountain that claimed lives some time ago, triggered by the open dumping method and overload capacity. The 8 March 2026 incident killed seven people, prompting a total evaluation of the waste management system, the naming of suspects including former Head of Environmental Service Asep Kuswanto, and calls to stop open dumping.
