Jakarta (ANTARA) - The Governor of Jakarta, Pramono Anung Wibowo, has targeted the scholarship programme of the Lembaga Pengelola Dana Pendidikan (LPDP), a version of the Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov DKI), to begin in 2027.

“One of the things I really want to launch is to have an LPDP Jakarta. Is it possible? I am sure it is possible,” said Pramono during a gathering and breaking of the fast with the ranks of the Jakarta Provincial Education Office and school principals at the Jakarta Provincial Education Office, Thursday (26/2).

Pramono said that his party had started discussing the plan in more detail, including meeting with the national LPDP leadership to find the right scheme so that Jakarta has its own scholarship programme.

“Three days ago, I was accompanied by Ms. Nana (Head of the Jakarta Provincial Education Office, Nahdiana) and we received the director or the highest-ranking official at LPDP, Mr. Dwi Larso. We have started talking in more detail,” said Pramono.

He admitted that the launch of the Jakarta LPDP was delayed due to cuts in revenue sharing funds (DBH) for Jakarta of up to IDR 15 trillion.

However, the Jakarta Provincial Government has now found a way to realise the programme.

“I have told Ms. Nana that if possible, next year we can send at least 100 people on the LPDP programme,” said Pramono.

Pramono emphasised that the Jakarta LPDP programme will be open fairly, including for educators who want to continue their education to a higher level.

He also encouraged that support for education in Jakarta should not be limited to the undergraduate level, but also to master’s and doctoral levels.

According to him, education is the key to changing a person’s future. Moreover, education can also change the fate of people who are currently less fortunate.

Therefore, Pramono emphasised that he is committed to expanding access to education through various programmes, including the planned Jakarta LPDP.
