Jakarta (ANTARA) — Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo is considering improving Transjabodetabek connectivity to further encourage people to use public transport in the capital.

“We believe that transport in Jakarta, particularly the improvements we have made to Transjabodetabek, has continued to get better. We will therefore consider new Transjabodetabek routes to improve connectivity further,” Pramono said at a press conference on the third-quarter 2026 Regional Budget (APBD) realisation at City Hall on Wednesday.

The number of public transport passengers in Jakarta rose by 10.8% through September 2026. The increase was attributed to improvements in transport quality, particularly on Transjabodetabek services.

Pramono said the number of Transjabodetabek users continued to grow. On the Blok M–Bogor route, for example, average passenger numbers are now close to 10,000, compared with an initial target of 2,000.

He said he hoped public confidence in transport managed by the Jakarta Provincial Government would be maintained, allowing the number of public transport users in the capital to continue rising.

“This is also reflected in Jakarta’s public transport ranking: it is now 15th in the world, second in ASEAN after Singapore, and seventh in Asia. In Asia, we are behind only Taiwan, Singapore, Seoul, Osaka and Shanghai. But we are now ahead of Beijing and Tokyo. What makes me happiest is that we are also ahead of New York and Amsterdam,” Pramono said.
