JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has assured that the waste sorting programme in Jakarta will be evaluated routinely. The evaluation is intended to ensure that the waste sorting movement is carried out seriously and does not become merely a ceremonial activity. “I have asked the Bureau of Regional Heads to evaluate the progress of this waste sorting movement every two weeks,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall in Central Jakarta on Tuesday (12/5/2026). This is because the Bantar Gebang Integrated Waste Processing Site (TPST) is said to be no longer able to accommodate the waste load from Jakarta. Therefore, this programme will not only be intensified during the ceremonial launch on Sunday (10/5/2026). “This is not just a ceremonial campaign; we are serious about it because it addresses the waste problem in Jakarta, as Bantar Gebang can no longer cope, so the entire apparatus will certainly move to address it,” Pramono stated. He said that all levels of the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will mobilise to implement the programme. According to him, waste sorting will be divided into two main categories: organic and inorganic. “The waste will even be used for fertiliser and so on, as fertiliser and the like,” he added. Meanwhile, for hotels, restaurants, and cafes, the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government will mandate the provision of waste separation facilities. “Because the largest organic waste comes from hotels, restaurants, and cafes,” Pramono explained.
