Pramono to Conduct Internal Reforms Over Illegal Dumpsite in Cilincing

Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo will carry out internal reforms related to illegal temporary waste disposal sites (TPS) in the Nagrak area, Cilincing, North Jakarta.

“With all due respect, I also have to make improvements internally. So it must be fair and just,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday.

He also demanded that perpetrators of illegal waste dumping in the Nagrak area, Cilincing, North Jakarta, be dealt with firmly. Moreover, the identities of the parties involved will be published to provide a deterrent effect and ensure that illegal waste dumping practices no longer take place.

“I have asked the City Hall ranks, including the Environmental Agency, Kominfotik, and so on, firstly to announce it, secondly to impose fines. Thirdly, the companies that have been profiting from the hotel, restaurant and café sector, if they cannot fix this, they will be closed. We are taking firm steps to deal with this,” Pramono explained.

Pramono revealed that the majority of the illegally dumped waste comes from the hotel, restaurant and café (horeka) sector. The waste is transported by private operators who charge fees from customers, but then dump it carelessly in the Nagrak area.

The Nagrak area was previously used by the Jakarta Provincial Government as an alternative waste disposal site in 2003. However, all official disposal activities were stopped in 2015–2016 and diverted back to the Bantargebang Integrated Waste Treatment Facility.

Despite the closure, illegal dumping and waste sorting activities have continued. Private waste transport trucks are still found entering and leaving the site, along with illegal stalls and scavenging activities.
