Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung intends to accelerate river normalisation efforts during the dry season, noting that low water levels will facilitate the work. “We will carry out normalisation when the water discharge is low. Therefore, construction will soon begin at several points where land has been cleared by the Water Resources Agency and the Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning,” Pramono stated in South Jakarta on Tuesday (21/7/2026). He added that the Jakarta Provincial Government is also preparing measures to anticipate drought during a prolonged dry season. The potential for increased pollution during the dry season will be discussed in a meeting next week. “Jakarta has not yet experienced drought, but we are certainly anticipating it. If a long dry spell occurs and water resources are depleted, steps must be taken,” Pramono said. Previously, Pramono had warned all parties about the heightened risk of fires during the dry season. He urged that every community unit (RW) be equipped with fire extinguishers and called on residents not to carelessly discard cigarette butts. “Do not throw cigarette butts carelessly after smoking, as this can cause fires or short circuits. Let us all maintain vigilance together. The Jakarta Provincial Government will repeatedly convey this message to the public,” he stated.
