Pramono Threatens Sanctions for Civil Servants Who Do Not Take Public Transport Every Wednesday
JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Governor of DKI Jakarta Pramono Anung emphasises that all civil servants (ASN) within the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government are required to use public transport every Wednesday. He confirms that sanctions will be imposed on ASN who violate the rule. The statement was made in response to the continued presence of ASN who bring private vehicles and park them at IRTI Monas, opposite the Jakarta City Hall.
‘If there is data and there are facts, I will ask the City Hall ranks, the government, Mr Secretary (Sekda), Ms Premi (Head of the Regional Civil Service Agency of DKI Jakarta), to take action against anyone who violates the rule by not using public transport facilities,’ Pramono said on Wednesday (4 March 2026).
Pramono acknowledged that he himself remains consistent in using public transport to go to work on Wednesdays.
’ I am a person who consistently, even if today I use the end of the line, still goes to work using public transport,’ Pramono said.
The policy requiring the use of public transport every Wednesday is part of efforts to improve Jakarta’s transport system. In addition, the move is intended to set an example for the public to switch to public transport in daily activities.
‘Because this is an example of how we operate, to improve the transport system in Jakarta,’ he said.
‘The area around IRTI will actually be renovated soon, because we are cooperating with the central government and will reorganise it,’ Pramono said.
