JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has expressed thanks for the viral upload showing a waste truck belonging to the Environmental Agency (DLH) allegedly dumping its load into the Pesanggrahan River in the Tanah Kusir Cemetery area, South Jakarta.

According to him, the incident has instead become a momentum to reorganise Jakarta’s waste management system.

“Yesterday’s Pesanggrahan incident, to be honest, I am grateful. Because of that, I finally decided that there should no longer be temporary storage sites like that,” Pramono said when met at Tosari Bus Stop, Central Jakarta, on Friday (27/3/2026).

He assessed that the existence of temporary storage sites is ineffective because it makes waste management more complicated while increasing operational costs.

Going forward, the DKI Provincial Government will reorganise the waste transportation flow.

Waste from collection points will be directly directed to main processing facilities such as TPST Bantargebang or Rorotan.

“Later, from the collection points, we will arrange whether it will be taken to Bantargebang or to Rorotan,” Pramono stated.

The issue emerged after photos circulated on social media Threads showing a waste truck stopped near the river with its body raised.

The photo uploaded by the account @murwidianti shows a truck with the identity “UPK Badan Air Dinas Lingkungan Hidup Provinsi DKI Jakarta T.A. 2017” and piles of rubbish on the slope near the water body, thus raising suspicions of direct dumping into the river.

The uploader questioned whether the action was DLH’s standard operating procedure.

“Today I went to Tanah Kusir Cemetery. On the way back, my car was blocked by a small waste truck that was dumping rubbish into the river,” reads the caption of the upload.

According to him, the location in question is an official emplacement or temporary storage point in the Tanah Kusir Cemetery area.
