Pramono Targets Transjakarta to Serve Thousand Islands by 2027
The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is targeting the management of transport from mainland Jakarta to the Seribu Islands to be transferred to PT Transportasi Jakarta (Transjakarta) starting in 2027.
DKI Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung said the transfer of management is being carried out to improve the efficiency and quality of transport services to the island region.
According to Pramono, transport to the Seribu Islands is currently still managed by the DKI Jakarta Transportation Agency. This scheme is considered to have not yet produced optimal results.
“Based on that, I finally decided to manage transport from, let’s say, mainland Jakarta to the Seribu Islands, which will be managed by Transjakarta,” said Pramono in North Jakarta on Monday (10/8).
Pramono assessed that Transjakarta has the experience and capacity to manage public transport services on a large scale. The performance of the transport operator is also considered to be improving.
“We see this as being very inefficient because, based on the experience in Jakarta itself, in the five urban areas, the performance of Transjakarta is now quite good, managing almost 10,000 buses, even more,” he said.
Pramono said the increase in the number of Transjakarta users is one indicator of improved services. In addition to passenger numbers, punctuality and on-the-ground service are also considerations.
“Punctuality, then on the ground, and as we know, the increase in people using Transjakarta is also very high. This month alone, last month alone, it rose to 14.99 percent, that’s the increase,” said Pramono.
According to him, the increase shows that public trust in Transjakarta services is getting higher.
“This shows that the people of Jakarta now place their trust in Transjakarta,” he continued.
Although it is targeted to run in 2027, the mechanism for managing transport to the Seribu Islands is still in the maturation stage.
The DKI Provincial Government must adjust a number of regulations, including Regional Regulations (Perda) and Governor Regulations (Pergub). The fare scheme will also be determined in the process.
“The mechanism is still being finalised because we have to amend the Perda, Pergub, and later determine the fare. What is certain is that the fare will be cheaper if managed professionally, as is currently done at Transjakarta,” Pramono concluded.
