Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung accompanied Vice President Gibran Rakabuming Raka to inspect the progress of the MRT Jakarta Phase 2A route from Bundaran HI to Kota on Tuesday, 12 May 2026. The inspection covered several points, from Sawah Besar Station to Harmoni Station.

Pramono stated that the progress of the route’s construction has reached approximately 59 percent. He mentioned that, according to reports from PT MRT Jakarta, the commissioning phase is planned to begin in mid-2027, with the target for operations to Harmoni no later than the end of 2027.

“We inspected locations from Sawah Besar to Harmoni. Overall, the construction progress currently stands at around 59 percent,” Pramono said in an official statement on Tuesday, 12 May 2026.

He added that further construction towards the Kota Tua area is targeted for completion by the end of 2029. Thus, the entire main route of MRT Phase 2A, spanning 22.2 kilometres, is expected to be finished in the same year.

Pramono also mentioned that the provincial government is continuing the development of the East-West MRT, which is currently in the land acquisition phase, route determination, and station location selection. The first segment of that project is targeted to begin operations in 2030.

During the inspection, Pramono explained that Sawah Besar and Mangga Besar Stations are the deepest construction points, reaching 28 metres below ground level. He also noted that the total number of project workers is around 3,800, all domestic labour.

Meanwhile, Gibran described the project as a form of collaboration between the central and local governments through PT MRT Jakarta. “Construction progress has reached about 59 percent. By the end of 2027, the Bundaran HI–Monas route will be connected and begin operations, followed by extension to Kota Station by the end of 2029,” Gibran said.

He also highlighted the Jakarta Provincial Government’s policy of fare exemptions for transportation for 15 groups of society, including the elderly and people with disabilities. According to him, developing safe, comfortable, and integrated public transport is a government priority.

“Safe, comfortable, integrated, and modern public transport will encourage people to switch from private vehicles,” he stated.

Gibran emphasised the importance of synergy between the central government, local government, and agglomeration areas to strengthen urban transportation systems, particularly for vulnerable groups such as children, women, pregnant mothers, the elderly, and people with disabilities.
