Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated his desire to make Jakarta a role model for Pancasila education in Indonesia. Pramono noted that Jakarta bears a significant responsibility to demonstrate the practical application of Pancasila’s values, particularly amidst its diverse population.

He conveyed this during his speech at Jakarta City Hall on Tuesday (7/4/2026), while opening a socialisation event on Pancasila education learning for teachers and school principals across DKI Jakarta.

“I am confident that Jakarta can hopefully become a role model for this Pancasila education process, not just memorised, but becoming part of everyday life in society,” said Pramono.

He emphasised three main messages for educators. First, Pancasila must be present in lively and relevant classroom discussions, not dogmatically. Second, learning must be made enjoyable and meaningful, not mere rote memorisation. Third, Pancasila education must align between family, school, society, and real life.

On the other hand, Pramono frequently referenced the practices of diversity that the DKI Provincial Government has undertaken. He cited examples such as the grand Christmas Carol, Chinese New Year celebrations, and the ogoh-ogoh parade during Nyepi, which were previously rarely featured in Jakarta’s public spaces.

Pramono stated that the courage to showcase diversity has a direct impact on the economy. He revealed that transactions from the ‘Mudik to Jakarta’ event held from 4-30 March reached Rp 67.5 trillion, while Jakarta’s economic growth pierced 5.21%, higher than the national 5.11%.

Not only that, Pramono also mentioned that Jakarta now ranks as the second safest city in ASEAN according to the Global Resident Index 2024.

“This is due to the collective awareness of residents in safeguarding Jakarta. Everyone feels ownership of this city,” he said.

Pramono, who admitted to being involved from the beginning in the formation of BPIP, emphasised that the main strength of Pancasila is gotong royong. He quoted Megawati Soekarnoputri’s view that when Pancasila is “squeezed”, its core strength is gotong royong.

“But one thing I want to convey to you all. Not many countries in the world are as fortunate as Indonesia. Right upon declaring its independence, it already had an ideology, it already had Pancasila,” he stated.

Pramono hopes that Jakarta will serve as an example for other regions in implementing Pancasila in a tangible manner.

“I am confident that Jakarta can become a role model for Pancasila education, not just for memorisation but as part of everyday societal life,” he added.
