Pramono targets completion of Integrated Utility Network within five years
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has set a target for the construction of the Integrated Utility Network (SJUT) to be completed within the next five years.
“To be honest, I am planning that within five years, all cables currently on the surface can be moved underground. Whether five years is achievable or not remains to be seen, as there are approximately 6,500 kilometres that must be addressed. However, if this is handled totally—meaning not relying solely on the Department of Public Works (Bina Marga)—I am confident it can be done,” said Pramono after inspecting cable management on Jalan Soepomo, Tebet, South Jakarta.
According to him, once these cables have been successfully organised or placed underground, the face of Jakarta will be significantly different and improved.
Pramono explained that the cables currently undergoing management are communication cables, as the relocation of electrical cables is a more time-consuming process.
“In principle, there are two types of cables: one for communication and one for electricity. Currently, the ones that can be moved underground are those related to communication. Meanwhile, cables related to electricity still require more time,” Pramono elaborated.
Pramono also requested that the cable management in the capital involve private parties to ensure the target is met.
“Therefore, private sector involvement is very necessary so that this can be achieved collectively, as the legal framework is already in place. We believe this is also a commercially attractive business opportunity, so that the relocation of cables can become a joint movement carried out by all stakeholders in Jakarta,” said Pramono.
On the same occasion, the Head of the Department of Public Works, Heru Suwondo, stated that the construction of the SJUT is currently being carried out at eight locations, covering a total length of 16.9 kilometres.
Heru explained that the eight construction points for the SJUT include MT Haryono, Gatot Subroto, Supomo, Abdullah Syafei, Saharjo, Pemuda, Otista, Tebet Barat Dalam Raya, Matraman, and Jatinegara.
