Pramono targets 5,000 children for PAM Jaya mass circumcision next year
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has set a target for PAM Jaya to provide mass circumcision for 5,000 children next year, in conjunction with the 500th anniversary of the city of Jakarta. “Earlier, together with the Deputy Governor, I decided that to welcome the 5th century next year, the mass circumcision in DKI Jakarta, I ask PAM Jaya to prepare for 5,000 children,” Pramono said at City Hall on Wednesday. He explained that the target of 5,000 participants was chosen because Jakarta will turn five centuries old in 2027. He therefore requested that PAM Jaya begin preparations for the event now. On the same occasion, PAM Jaya President Director Arief Nasrudin noted that this year’s mass circumcision was the fourth time the company has held the event, in collaboration with the DKI Jakarta Family Empowerment and Welfare (PKK) mobilisation team. “The first time, four years ago, the number of children participating in the mass circumcision was only 150, then it increased to 500. I was challenged by the Governor’s wife to increase it to 1,000, and was challenged again this year. God willing, the committee’s report shows it has reached 2,000 children,” Arief said. “We may expand it to include children from outside Jakarta next year,” Arief added. Through the mass circumcision event, PAM Jaya and the DKI Jakarta PKK earned a MURI record for the highest number of participants in a mass circumcision.
