Pramono Surprised by Public Enthusiasm at Inaugural CFD on Rasuna Said

JAKARTA - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung admitted he was surprised to see the public enthusiastically participating in the Car Free Day (CFD) on Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said in South Jakarta, which was held for the first time on Sunday morning (10/5/2026). “I was also surprised earlier, shocked, on the first day of the Car Free Day, and yet from the morning, the public was very enthusiastic,” said Pramono while attending the launch of Jakarta’s 499th Anniversary (HUT) in the Rasuna Said CFD area on Sunday (10/5/2026). He explained that the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government (Pemprov) deliberately held the CFD on Jalan H.R. Rasuna Said to demonstrate the ongoing revitalisation process. “Why is it held on Rasuna Said Street? We want to show the public that Jakarta is improving to have a new icon on this street,” said Pramono. Pramono stated that the revitalisation process of the H.R. Rasuna Said area is not yet fully complete. However, he assured that the improvements to the road and the area are targeted to be finished next month. According to him, the area revitalisation is also inspired by the figure of Hajjah Rangkayo Rasuna Said, a national heroine from West Sumatra whose name is used for the street. Currently, the Rasuna Said area is indeed being tidied up and repaired, including the improvement of the abandoned monorail pillars and road widening. Furthermore, he revealed that the Rasuna Said CFD will start running effectively on 1 June 2026 with the same operating hours as the Sudirman-Thamrin CFD, namely starting at 05.30 WIB.
