Jakarta (ANTARA) - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has welcomed schools that are including education on waste segregation in their School Environment Introduction Period (MPLS) materials.

“If the education is about sorting waste, I think that is excellent,” said Pramono at City Hall on Monday.

Among the schools incorporating waste segregation education during MPLS are SDN 07 and 08 in Senen, Central Jakarta.

According to Pramono, MPLS activities at schools across the capital are indeed varied.

By including education on waste segregation, it is hoped that children will begin to understand how to sort waste properly from an early age.

“So the activities are indeed diverse, but waste sorting is now in line with the Governor’s Instruction (Ingub) No. 5 issued in 2026. Now almost all waste sorting activities are being held in various places,” Pramono explained.

It is known that last May, Pramono announced that he had signed the Governor’s Instruction on Waste Sorting from Home.

The DKI Jakarta Provincial Government is also cooperating with the Ministry of Environment to declare waste sorting initiatives across Jakarta.

Pramono noted that waste management in the capital must indeed be carried out jointly by both the government and the community.

He expressed hope that waste sorting from home can be carried out on a massive scale throughout Jakarta.

“The pilot projects have actually already started in Rorotan, in Cilincing and elsewhere, but hopefully next week this movement will become a massive movement carried out by all the administrative cities in Jakarta,” said Pramono.
