Pramono Supports Prabowo's Plan to Build Housing for Residents Along Railway Tracks
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo supports the central government’s plan to build new housing for residents living along railway tracks. The plan was previously announced by President Prabowo Subianto after visiting the area along the tracks in the Pasar Senen district, Central Jakarta.
Pramono stated that he is ready to assist in the construction of the housing. “The DKI Jakarta Government will provide full support for what the central government is doing to address housing for residents along the railway tracks,” Pramono said in a written statement quoted on Sunday, 29 March 2026.
According to Pramono, the Jakarta Provincial Government has previously relocated residents living in non-housing areas. One example was when the regional government moved people living in public cemetery (TPU) areas to high-rise apartments.
“We moved residents occupying TPU land to existing high-rise apartments. This is to restore the function of the TPU land and provide healthier housing for the residents,” said this politician from the Indonesian Democratic Party of Struggle.
During a surprise visit to the area along the tracks in Senen last Thursday, Prabowo promised to build housing for the residents living there. Prabowo made the same promise in a post on his Instagram account @prabowo.
In the post, Prabowo shared a video of his impromptu visit to the area along the tracks in Kramat, Pasar Senen. “Insya Allah, we will soon build decent housing for the community in that area quickly, and it has become my determination to provide decent housing for the Indonesian people,” said the Chairman of the Gerindra Party.
After the visit, Prabowo contacted Minister of Housing and Settlement Areas Maruarar Sirait. Prabowo asked Maruarar to immediately build housing for the residents still living along the tracks.
According to Secretary Teddy Indra Wijaya, Prabowo’s order was conveyed via a phone call. Prabowo called Maruarar in the evening after visiting Senen.
In the phone call, Prabowo asked Maruarar to build housing and bathing, washing, and toilet facilities (MCK) for residents still living along the railway tracks. “After the impromptu visit greeting residents along the railway tracks in the Senen area, Central Jakarta, President Prabowo immediately ordered the Minister of Housing via phone,” Teddy said in his statement on Friday, 27 March 2026.
Prabowo contacted Maruarar by phone because the Minister was in Toba, North Sumatra. In addition to Maruarar, Prabowo summoned other officials to discuss housing in the Senen trackside area, including Minister of Public Works Dody Hanggodo, President Director of PT Kereta Api Indonesia Bobby Rasyidin, and Acting President Director of Perumnas Imelda Alini Pohan.
The officials, Teddy said, immediately followed up on Prabowo’s orders. “Today, the team has already moved to prepare the process of building new housing and MCK not far from their original living area,” he said.
