Pramono Summons Ojol Management to Discuss Parking Solutions That Don't Obstruct Pavements
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has stated he will summon the management of online motorcycle taxi (ojol) companies to discuss the persistent problem of vehicles parking on pavements and in public spaces. He believes that the regulation of ojol parking cannot be solely the burden of the Jakarta Provincial Government.
"I have requested and summoned ojol management to jointly handle this. It is impossible for only the Jakarta government to manage it," Pramono said at Hotel Aryaduta, Jakarta, on Wednesday (24/6/2026).
Pramono noted that the large number of ojol drivers means their vehicles are scattered across various points in Jakarta. Therefore, better arrangements are needed so they do not disrupt public facilities.
"Often, ojol are everywhere now because they are numerous. And they park everywhere too," he said.
He cited the area of Jalan HR Rasuna Said as an example, where pavements have been reorganised and widened. According to him, pavements built for pedestrians must not have their function altered to become vehicle parking locations.
"For instance, in one area, Jalan Rasuna Said has now been improved, the pavements are wide. Do not let the pavements then be used for ojol parking," he stated.
Pramono said one solution currently being studied is the provision of special parking points or enclaves for ojol drivers in certain locations. This way, the activity of waiting for passengers or picking up orders would not disturb pedestrians.
"If you want to park, please use an enclave in one place and so on. Well, arrangements like that are what must be done," he explained.
On the same occasion, Pramono affirmed that the crackdown on illegal parking will continue to be carried out consistently. However, he asked all ranks of the Jakarta Provincial Government to enforce the rules firmly but without excess.
"In this enforcement, I convey to all ranks, be firm but do not be excessive," he said.
Pramono assessed that consistent parking management has shown results in several areas. He cited the conditions in Blok M, which is now considered more orderly after illegal parking enforcement was carried out.
"Because the results are proven, for example in Blok M. Previously, when people wanted to go to Blok M, they would already think about parking in two or three places, and so on. After the enforcement, it turns out it has become better now," he concluded.
