Pramono Still Reviewing Planned Fare Hikes for Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek
Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung is still reviewing the proposed fare increases for Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek services. He has received a report from the Jakarta City Transportation Council (DTKJ) and will recalculate the amount of the subsidy before making a decision. The discussion on fares cannot be conducted separately because it is directly linked to the subsidy capacity the government must prepare. “The DTKJ report has been submitted to us. We are studying it and in the coming weeks we will immediately recalculate,” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Wednesday (8/7). According to him, the decision regarding Transjakarta and Transjabodetabek fares must be based on a careful subsidy calculation so as not to burden regional finances or the public. “To decide on the fare increase for Transjakarta and everything else, including Transjabodetabek, we must of course look at how the subsidy should be calculated and implemented for that,” he said. He added that the Jakarta Provincial Government is currently discussing the regional budget (APBD) with the Jakarta DPRD. Nevertheless, setting public transport fare policy remains one of the government’s priority agendas. “We are currently in the stage of discussing the APBD with the DPRD of Jakarta Province, but it is a priority to be decided soon,” he concluded.
