Pramono states Transjabodetabek Blok M–Soetta route can reduce congestion
Jakarta – Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has stated that the new Transjabodetabek route from Blok M to Soekarno Hatta Airport (Soetta) will help reduce congestion around the airport area.
“Approximately 70 to 80 per cent of people travelling to Soekarno Hatta Airport use private vehicles,” Pramono said at the Blok M bus terminal in South Jakarta on Thursday.
Based on data from the Ministry of Transportation and field reports, approximately 54.9 million people visit Soekarno Hatta Airport annually.
“The figure is significant. So if 70 to 80 per cent of 54.9 million use private transport, it certainly has the potential to increase congestion on the roads,” Pramono said.
The Transjabodetabek Blok M to Soekarno Hatta Airport route is therefore expected to serve as a solution to traffic congestion and benefit the community.
“Just like when we targeted 2,000 passengers for the Transjabodetabek Blok M to Bogor route, on holidays it now carries more than 8,500 passengers. The average is already above 7,000. So the benefits of Transjabodetabek for Jakarta residents and surrounding areas are indeed quite high,” Pramono explained.
On this occasion, he noted that the buses on the Transjabodetabek Blok M to Soekarno Hatta route feature dedicated space for luggage and suitcases.
“Inside the bus there is space to store suitcases. Although of course when people travel they have many suitcases, not all luggage will be able to get dedicated space, so some suitcases will inevitably be kept with passengers. That is the consequence,” Pramono clarified.
