JAKARTA, KOMPAS.com - Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung stated that the level of economic inequality in Jakarta has decreased in the first quarter of 2026. He mentioned that Jakarta’s Gini ratio (a statistical indicator for measuring the level of inequality in income or expenditure distribution among the population) has fallen from 0.441 to 0.423. This decline is quite significant because reducing inequality in Jakarta is not an easy task. According to Pramono, lowering the Gini ratio in Jakarta is one of the most difficult jobs. This is due to the concentration of wealth and large money circulation in the capital, making the level of inequality tend to be higher compared to other regions. “That’s why the Gini ratio, among all other macro indicators, is always higher for us compared to other regions,” Pramono said. Nevertheless, Pramono is optimistic that inequality can continue to be suppressed, one of which is through improving access to education for the community. In addition, the DKI Provincial Government ensures that social assistance programmes will continue and will not be reduced. For him, the continuity of social assistance is one of the keys to maintaining economic balance and suppressing inequality in Jakarta. “Our Regional Budget must not reduce matters related to KJP, KJMU, KAJ, KLJ, KPDC, and other things because these are what make Jakarta’s social and economic buffers well-maintained,” Pramono said.
