Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has discussed the strategies for completing two abandoned projects in Jakarta, namely the monorail project on Jalan Rasuna Said and the Sumber Waras Hospital project. He stated that there are high risks involved in resolving these two long-stalled projects in the capital.

“I want to set an example consistent with our major theme, ‘Daring to Make Decisions, Smart in Managing Risk’,” said Pramono while opening a Technical Guidance session for Commitment Making Officers (PPK) within the Jakarta Provincial Government at Balai Agung, Jakarta City Hall, on Monday (2jack/6/2026).

He cited the handling of the monorail project on Jalan HR Rasuna Said, which has been abandoned for more than two decades. According to him, many parties were initially doubtful that the project could be completed.

“There is a project that has been stalled for over 21 years, almost 22 years, which is the monorail project on Jalan Rasuna Said,” he noted.

Pramono explained that he consulted with the Head of the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office (Kajati) from the very beginning before making a decision. Through this approach, the Jakarta Provincial Government finally dared to resolve the issue that had remained unsettled for so long.

“When I first consulted with him, no one could have imagined that this project could be completed. But because I, and subsequently the Head of the Prosecutor’s Office, were brave enough to make the decision and manage the risk, alhamdulillah, 109 monorail pillars and 3.8 kilometres of Jalan Rasuna Said are now finished,” he revealed.

This statement refers to the redevelopment project of Jalan HR Rasuna Said, which was inaugurated following the removal of the abandoned monorail pillars. He even touched upon the phenomenon of many parties claiming credit once the project was completed.

“Once it is finished, everyone claims to have played a part in resolving it. That is life. That is our bureaucracy,” said Pramono.

Pramono also shared the story behind resolving the land issues for the Sumber Waras Hospital. This project had also stalled after the land was purchased by the Jakarta Provincial Government in 2014.

He stated that the resolution process was carried out through consultations with the Attorney General’s Office, the Jakarta High Prosecutor’s Office, the Corruption Eradication Commission (KPK), and the Audit Board of Indonesia (BPK) to provide legal certainty before construction could proceed.

“Once I obtained certainty, I gained the conviction that this must be completed. Alhamdulillah, everything is now resolved. We have levelled the Sumber Waras site, and we will soon begin construction for the Sumber Waras International Hospital,” he said.

Pramono emphasised that the risks in decision-making are indeed high. However, he believes that such risks can be managed as long as the decision-makers do not have personal interests.

“The risk is not low; the risk is very high. But you must be smart in managing that risk, provided there are no personal burdens. Once you have personal interests, you certainly will not be able to manage it well,” Pramott asserted.

He reminded Commitment Making Officers (PPK) not to merely focus on budget absorption, but to ensure that every use of the Regional Budget (APBD) is accountable and provides real benefits to the community.

“Every rupiah in our regional budget must be accountable. It is not just about completing budget absorption, but whatever is spent must bring benefits to us all,” he concluded.
