Pramono signs regulation on Jakarta LPDP
Jakarta (ANTARA) - Chico Hakim, Special Staff to the Governor and Deputy Governor of Jakarta for Public Communication, said that Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung has signed Governor’s Regulation (Pergub) No. 20 of 2026 on Education Quality Improvement Assistance.
“This regulation forms the foundation for the scholarship programme known publicly as LPDP Jakarta or Beasiswa Jakarta Unggul, while also strengthening the governance of the Kartu Jakarta Pintar (KJP) Plus and Kartu Jakarta Mahasiswa Unggul (KJMU) so that they are better targeted and more effective,” Chico explained in a statement on Tuesday.
He said the programme gives high-achieving Jakarta residents the opportunity to pursue master’s (S-2) and doctoral (S-3) degrees at the world’s best universities.
Chico said implementation of the programme is targeted to begin in the 2027 academic year, with registration planned to open in September 2027.
The Jakarta Provincial Government has prepared a budget of around Rp100 billion. The selection mechanism will be run jointly with the central LPDP, while the provincial government will determine recipients, fields of study, and destinations aligned with Jakarta’s human resource needs as a global city.
“Governor Pramono Anung affirmed the provincial government’s commitment to continuing this programme, in line with efforts to improve schools and expand education assistance from primary through to undergraduate levels,” Chico said.
“He also ensured that KJMU graduates can continue to S-2 or S-3 study through this scheme,” he added.
Under Pergub 20/2026, recipients of the Beasiswa Jakarta Unggul receive tuition funding and personal expenses, including living costs, book allowances, health insurance, arrival costs, and visas.
In addition, the provincial government provides research funding for theses or dissertations, international conferences, and journal publications.
Funding lasts a maximum of two years for master’s degrees and five years for doctorates. After completing their studies, recipients are required to contribute to Jakarta’s development for at least twice the length of their study period.
Chico further explained that the regulation also tightens and streamlines the disbursement of KJP Plus and KJMU.
Recipients are prioritised from families registered in the National Social and Economic Single Data (DTSEN), particularly Deciles 1 to 5, with a requirement of residence in DKI Jakarta for at least five consecutive years.
Verification of prospective KJP and KJMU recipients is still ongoing. Parents are asked to ensure their data is accurate and to update it if necessary through the Education Office’s services.
Pergub 20/2026 was drafted together with Deputy Governor Rano Karno as an expression of the vision to break the cycle of misfortune and strengthen Jakarta’s foundations as a global city.
Detailed technical provisions, including requirements and criteria for prospective recipients, will be regulated further through a Governor’s Decree.
