Pramono Signs Jakarta Bylaw to Tackle Messy Cables

Governor of Jakarta Pramono Anung has confirmed he has signed a regional regulation (Perda) concerning the management of the capital city’s tangled cables. “The cables are currently being organised because I have already signed the bylaw. It is the Perda on the Integrated Utility Network Facility (SJOT),” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Friday (26/6). He explained that previously, cables could not be moved underground due to the absence of a legal framework. With the enactment of this bylaw, he hopes the issue of messy cables in the capital can be properly addressed. “With the Perda that I have signed and which has been promulgated, hopefully the handling of cables can be managed better,” Pramono stated. Furthermore, several private companies or entities are now ready to cooperate with the Jakarta Provincial Government to tackle the cable problem. Pramono acknowledged that the issue of messy cables is one of the city’s most complex problems. “Jakarta is so complex and so large that its main problem is the many cables that are actually no longer in use, but their owners are unaware because they have been there for so long,” he said.
