Jakarta Governor Pramono Anung Wibowo has confirmed he has signed a regional regulation (Perda) concerning the organisation of cables in the capital. “The cables are currently being organised because I have signed the Perda. It is the Perda on SJOT (Integrated Utility Network Facilities),” Pramono said at Jakarta City Hall on Friday. He explained that previously, cables could not be placed underground due to the lack of a legal framework. With the enactment of this bylaw, it is hoped that the issue of messy cables in the capital can be properly addressed. “With the Perda that I have signed and which has been promulgated, hopefully, the handling of cables can be improved,” he stated. Furthermore, several private companies or entities are already prepared to cooperate with the DKI Jakarta Provincial Government to manage the capital’s cables. Pramono acknowledged that the problem of messy cables is one of the most complex issues in Jakarta. “Jakarta is so complex and large; the main problem is that many cables are no longer in use, but the owners are unaware because they have been there for so long,” he said.
